We created TDB’s office and storage space by converting a block of four old garages. The formation of the block was an L shape, with one double length/double width garage alongside three single garages. All of the garages had been used for storage for many years, so there were no water or waste supplies, and no communication links, although there was a basic electrical connection. We converted the three single garages into an office space, with kitchenette and toilet/shower room, and kept the big double garage as storage for materials and equipment. The original roof was too weak to retain, so it was stripped and replaced, and the brick walls were pebble-dashed externally and insulated internally. The forecourt was resurfaced in blockwork. The resulting office space is bright and airy, and we believe that the external features both preserve and enhance the original character of the property, while complementing the style of the neighbouring houses.
